so I guess today is artina analysis day, if the posts my (possibly onesided) nemesis nami has made are any indication
that’s actually very lucky for me, because I’m here to discuss artina’s perceived moneygrubbing tendencies and why they are immensely overexaggerated by the fandom. in fact, I’m going to argue that, except in very isolated incidences of overexcitement (and, well, bad writing), artina isn’t greedy at all.
does that sound ridiculous to you? oh, yeah, probably. and that’s exactly why you should read this!
okay this is gonna be relatively short but here we go…
i’ll start with this
except in very isolated incidences of overexcitement (and, well, bad writing)
okay so i’m confused like
are some parts of the game not canon to you?
who decides what’s canon and what’s “bad writing”????
artina was collecting funds to stop nemo and avert the apocalypse. look, it’s right there — if I see one more person say it was for celestia’s sake I’m gonna flip more lids than a garbage truck
idk who you’re talking about when you say people are mistaken about artina’s motives for collecting money
(it’s hardly a quick way to excuse her actions, either — because why else would she keep such detailed records of just how much is owed, down to the last digit of HL? she really did calculate out all those collections.)
okay they brought this up in the dlc, i think it was fuka who asked where she was getting her sources for all these seemingly random numbers
don’t be so quick to use it as evidence when there is really NO proof that she ISN’T making up these numbers off the top of her head
i mean i don’t really think artina WOULD make it up but it’s still not something i would use to defend her
it’s not an extortion scheme, it’s an excuse to follow val. it’s so, so obvious in a way that these screenshots can’t convey, particularly the A-Virus one — the scene flows exactly like a “yeah I’m ONLY going with you because you owe me something, don’t get the wrong idea!” type of thing
umm you said earlier that all her efforts are for flonne and nemo, like to prevent the apocalypse and save nemo
she joined val’s party because she knew it was the path that would eventually lead to nemo
so saying artina is misty in this situation is flat out wrong
and sure part of the reason is oh! this is that vampire i knew before and he still kept his promise! how touching!
but the most important thing to her at this point in the game is saving nemo, not making up reasons to follow val because she’s being tsundere
and finally
if her money obsession is really only there because it’s so urgent that she help flonne to save the world
then how come after they stop nemo she’s still completely obsessed with money
wouldn’t she stop getting so damn excited about it?
you could say but nami! she needs time to go back to how she used to be…
or you could say but nami! flonne said she needed funds to fix the corrupternment so artina’s not done with her mission yet!
no
her mission ended with stopping nemo
anything she does after that is because she’s still basically flonne’s bitch
artina is flonne’s cute little thief angel who diligently collects lots of money for her to build giant robots with
i don’t think it’s wrong to say that artina fell in love with money while on her mission
i actually think it’s a great reason she should become a fallen angel, on top of all the other bad stuff she’s done as an angel—like breaking celestian law by harming herself, and going against god himself
what’s a little greed compared to stuff like that?
so I guess today is artina analysis day, if the posts my (possibly onesided) nemesis nami has made are any indication

ok ranka
thing is i agree with you
i love valtina i love artina
and everything here is exactly as I’d explain it.
HOWEVER
“artina uses their debt to her as an excuse to follow them (probably val in particular) around without seeming suspicious or clingy, because i-it’s not like she likes val or anything, you bakas, he just hasn’t paid her yet!”
no.
In the end, Artina admits to not caring enough about Valvatorez during the whole storyline. She was too caught up in Nemo.
The reason she followed them was most likely that she was going after Nemo and was concentrating on it.
I just thought I should point this out, however, thank you for a nice and valid argument. I honestly didn’t expect this to be so good.
looking back, that was a bit of a hasty point to jump to — I would likely amend it to it being a combination of “oh it’s that tyrant from all that time ago, fascinating” and wanting to travel in a group for safety reasons
I would not, however, write it off completely, because right before her first instance of binding herself to the party with money, she does this

which is seriously the opposite of helpful to her mission, getting herself injured like that
just the fact that she took the bullet makes me really write off the idea that she didn’t care about val — he may have been secondary to her mission, but she and val still had a pretty obvious beating-around-the-bush notice of — and dare I say, attraction to — each other, so I didn’t think the idea she intentionally stuck around because of him was too outlandish
your point probably has more to do with it, though! so thank you for pointing that out
so I guess today is artina analysis day, if the posts my (possibly onesided) nemesis nami has made are any indication

I know the tyrant val DLC is eons old, but why does nobody ever bring this up
why does everybody always go either “sardines sardines sardines” or “stupid fenrich I wanted more val” at this DLC when this DLC represents nothing less than a complete turnaround in the reasoning behind fenrich’s servitude to val, and perhaps even his entire attitude towards val in general
well if nobody else is going to character analyze then I guess it’s up to me
like since when has an expansive DLC actually ever devolved a character
the tyrant val DLC literally turned fenrich from “really condescending servant trying to manipulate val into what he believes val should be out of intense loyalty,” which was pretty interesting at least, to “really condescending servant trying to manipulate val so he (fenrich) can take over and rule the universe”
really
take over the universe
what a delightful, innovative, and entirely original character motivation nis
please, tell me more
seriously why would you go through the trouble of making your games primarily centered around character development if you’re just gonna disregard it all for the sake of tired, unfunny jokes
answer me nis
why
yosukelaughingalonewithwrenches:
can i just throw a casual question out to the disgaea fandom
why does it seem like everyone hates the ship fen/val or is it just
fenrich himself that’s hated
like it’s not problematic or anything????????????
i mean heck it might not even be hated or anything i might just be getting the wrong idea but if anyonesays it’s just bcuz of Nami i’m going to be seriously peeved :l
wow i feel like im going to get hate because of just a simple question it’s kind of sad that this is such a touchy issue :I
how many people have ever legitimately posted outright hate or condescension about valtina or artina, or destroyed the valtina tag with sarcastic posts and hate
how many people have done that to valfen or fenrich
I’m just saying, if you think people hating valfen is the issue here…I don’t know what to tell you? like, legitimately, can you point me to Valfen hate because…I haven’t seen it almost anywhere on tumblr
valfen is not a widely-hated ship, and the people that dislike it tend to keep their dislike of it private as a matter of politeness, and that’s way better than I can say about other anti-shippers in the fandom
As great as this is, I’m once again reminded of the sad truth that Jon Stewart — a comedian — is doing the media’s job better than the media itself.
republicans have ventured into this weird zone of “all of the programs with none of the taxes!” and that just…it doesn’t work, it will never work
if you wanna be fiscally conservative, you have to be able to say “okay, look, you’re not going to have all of the government benefits you’re used to, but you’ll be getting more money to spend as you see fit” because that’s what that philosophy is supposed to be
instead it’s turned into this circus of telling the public they can have their cake and eat it too and it’s just…really awful
I’ve noticed people have this weird tendency to use “you” to refer to an entire group of people, especially when trying to make a point against said people (men, cisgendereds, caucasians, w/e)
and then they will expand on this by saying “you” are hypocrites for espousing different opinions or attitudes
“You can’t set these standards for women in advertisements, men, and then say you don’t like makeup!”
“You can’t say you’re not being racist, caucasians, when you’re enforcing a racial wage gap!”
“You can’t say you support transpeople, cisgendereds, when you’re still oppressing our rights!”
within a wide group of people, there are people who believe, support, and do different things from other people in the group
I can’t believe anyone considers lumping them all together and treating each as responsible for every other’s action a reasonable argument
pick up any history book
flip to any page
and no matter where you stop white people were fucking shit up for everyone
every single race has fucked shit up, whether for each other or for other people, on both individual and larger scales
the main reason “white people” tended to fuck up more shit is that parts of europe have been pretty loaded for most of history, allowing them more means and influence to fuck shit up
to say that fucking shit up is the exclusive territory of white people is pretty disingenuous
honestly if you changed fenrich’s gender and NOTHING ELSE in disgaea 4
everyone would be like
yeah val and femrich
it’s canon
BUT INSTEAD I AM HERE WITH MY SMALL YET DEDICATED ARMY…
AND A COUPLE OF YAOI FANS WHO ONLY LIKE IT BECAUSE IT’S TWO HOT DEMON DUDES…
or maybe people think that valfen isn’t canon because it isn’t canon
they don’t hook up, they don’t have a mutual expression of romantic feelings, and aside from fenrich being bizarrely/suspiciously loyal (which, yeah, waspretty gosh-darned homosexual-looking from anyone’s standpoint), it’s still not a canon ship, and it has nothing to do with the fact that it’s two guys
you can ship non-canon fine and dandy — non-canon is beautiful and I love it — but you shouldn’t act like it is canon and you definitely shouldn’t act like it’s an oppressed, unpopular ship by invoking the pretense of fandom homophobia
seriously have you checked the pixiv tags, valfen is beating valtina by like a mile
BUT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND IT’S CANON…
#wait why is ANYONE taking me seriously lolol #STOP….
so someone calls you out on being wrong in three different ways and suddenly you were JUST KIDDING SILLY YOU TAKING IT SERIOUSLY, despite you being perfectly committed to it before I reblogged it
alright
honestly if you changed fenrich’s gender and NOTHING ELSE in disgaea 4
everyone would be like
yeah val and femrich
it’s canon

This is why I use paraben free deodorant.
I didn’t know anything about this until I saw this post. definite reblog
Shit like this is important.
This is why I don’t wear deodorant unless I’m going somewhere important/scary.
I REGRET NOTHING.
I havent worn deodorant in years because of this.
oh wow! this is important i think
now I know
http://www.fda.gov/cosmetics/productandingredientsafety/selectedcosmeticingredients/ucm128042.htm
“Although estrogen is an acknowledged component in the development of breast cancer, it remains to be established as to whether environmental chemicals with estrogenic (estrogen-like) properties contribute a functional component to the disease process”
“There are no strong epidemiological studies in the medical literature that link breast cancer risk and antiperspirant use, and very little scientific evidence to support this claim.”
“…a 1998 study (Routledge et al., in Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology) found that the most potent paraben tested in the study, butylparaben, showed from 10,000- to 100,000-fold less activity than naturally occurring estradiol (a form of estrogen). Further, parabens are used at very low levels in cosmetics. In a review of the estrogenic activity of parabens, (Golden et al., in Critical Reviews in Toxicology, 2005) the author concluded that based on maximum daily exposure estimates, it was implausible that parabens could increase the risk associated with exposure to estrogenic chemicals.”
so if I’m reading these right, parabens haven’t been conclusively proven to cause breast cancer, and furthermore their potency (and, therefore, danger) is far less than natural estrogen, meaning it essentially has no effect at all on your natural risk
and this is why you don’t base your daily habits on tumblr reblogs
do people really like the lorax only because of the once-ler
because if you do well i just really don’t like you
agrees casually
it is acceptable to find the once-ler the only good thing about the recent movie because the recent movie was absolutely horrendous
it is not acceptable to like the book just because of the once-ler because the book is really good without some quirky baby-faced boy to buoy it up
I don’t understand why veryone loves Jake; I think he is cool and stuff, but, really, he and john are very similar, Jake only watch more movies and likes skulls and guns. And the fandom is like “oohhh, mr English, ooohhh”. I’m not saying this is bad or something, but it’s kinda silly.
I still prefer John than Jake. ):
stupid english, i want to say more things but i can’t because i don’t speak/write english very well.
I kind of feel inclined to agree with this
Jane has really rubbed me the right way so far, but Jake is still up in the air as to whether he’ll be cool or not
I really have to see them talk before I can determine if I really like them or not
